DICE sets out ‘specializations’ of different classes of Battlefield 1

DICE announces that it will “soon” be testing the previously announced specialization system on the Battlefield 1 community test environment on PC. This allows players to pick out certain bonuses that offer minor benefits during gameplay.

In a Reddit post, DICE employee Jojje Dalunde gives a taste of what’s to come. In order to decrypt the specializations, players actually have to complete certain tasks. That’s how it will be when the next expansion, In The Name Of The Tsar, comes out next month. For testing purposes, all specializations will be available from the start on the test servers.

The specializations are divided into a general and a class-specific category. The general category includes things like explosion damage reduction, faster health replenishment, and longer-lasting bayonet charges. Class specifics include a specialization that allows a medic’s squadmates to drop a smoke grenade when shot, making it much easier for the medic to get back on their feet. In addition, for example, the sniper can see all enemies within a radius of 15 meters on his minimap when his landmine goes off. It is not stated how many of the specializations can be active at the same time.

With the changes, DICE is attempting to address a frequently heard complaint about Battlefield 1, which is that the gameplay is said to lack some depth. The specializations were already present in previous games, such as Battlefield 4. There, players chose a group of four specializations that were then unlocked during gameplay for that game by working together with their squad.

Registration is required to enter the Battlefield 1 cte. DICE does impose some requirements on this, to ensure that players are actually able to provide good feedback. The studio has also created a Reddit post for this.
