DICE has dropped its plans for a competitive 5v5 mode in Battlefield V, the company has announced. The developer wants to focus on fixing bugs in the shooter, among other things.

The removal of the 5v5 mode is necessary to achieve the goals of making fixes and new content for Battlefield V, said Ryan McArthur, the game’s senior producer. He also claims that the decision will allow the development team to provide better support for the competitive functionality that is in the game.

The upcoming update for Battlefield V, Update 4.4, fixes image stuttering and desynchronization issues. There are also changes to Commorose, there are two new infantry maps, called Provence and Lofoten Islands, and DICE increases the maximum Rank.

Update 4.6 will be released in September with the Operation Underground map for Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Breakthrough and Squad Conquest. Rush, a reimagining of Operation Métro, will be available for a limited time at Tides of War. Later, DICE focuses on the Pacific with Iwo Jima and two other locations. This seems to be a major update. The developer also promises to keep players informed of updates every month.
