Blizzard has released new details about Diablo IV. The upcoming dungeon crawler will include a revamped Paragon system for the endgame. The game features boards with stat bonuses and skills that players can unlock from level 50.

Blizzard reports in the blog post that players can earn Paragon points, just like in Diablo III. In the upcoming game, however, those points will be spent on a large board, which consists of tiles with bonuses and skills. The system is intended for progression in the Diablo IV endgame and offers four different tile types.

A ‘normal’ tile on the Paragon board offers a small stat bonus and magic tiles offer ‘more powerful and diverse bonuses’. Rare tiles provide ‘big boosts’ to certain skills, which become more powerful as players reach certain levels. Legendary tiles are located in the center of a Paragon board and give players a new ‘Legendary ability’. Certain tiles can also be equipped with glyphs. These are items that are unlocked during gameplay and unlock additional customizations.

The Paragon boards also contain ‘gates’ at the ends. When players reach it, they can choose a new board and add it. Each new board gets its own layout with different tiles.

Blizzard also says that it will be possible to transfer ‘legendary powers’ from items to other in-game items. For that, a new npc is introduced, called the Occultist. Certain enemies will also carry specific items. For example, bandits must carry clubs, crossbows and boots. The developer also shares information about the game’s visuals. Certain classes gain different visual effects when they defeat an enemy. For example, wizards can freeze or burn an enemy and barbarians can cut them in half.

Diablo IV was announced in 2019 and Blizzard has been publishing a blog post with new information every quarter since then. It is unknown when the game will be released. The studio indicated in its quarterly figures that the release should be postponed. Before that, it reported that the game would be released in 2022. It is unknown whether that target will be achieved.
