Devkit from Xbox Scorpio has 1TB SSD and OLED screen on the front
Microsoft has revealed the specifications and design of the devkit for the Scorpio, the Xbox console with support for 4k gaming, which is due to be released later this year. The design of the devkits of Microsoft’s consoles often resembles that of final consoles.
The devkit has a two-half design, with the top being white and the bottom being black. At the front is an OLED screen that can show developers live with how many frames per second the console is playing a game, according to the info that Gamasutra has put online.
The specs of the devkit differ on several points from those of the final retail version. Instead of 40 compute units, the custom Polaris GPU gets 44 compute units and the number of teraflops that the console gets is therefore 6.6 instead of 6.0.
In addition to the 1TB hdd, there is also a 1TB ssd, while the devkit has 24GB of gddr5 memory, compared to 12GB of gddr5 in the regular Scorpio. The system also requires more power, so the power supply is 330W instead of 245W. There are also three extra USB ports on the front of the devkit.
The devkit is only intended for developers and it is unknown if elements of the devkit will be returned to the retail version, such as the OLED screen and the five buttons on the front. Microsoft announced the specs of the Scorpio last week. The design, price, release date and games that will come out with the new console will probably follow during the E3 game fair in June.
