Developers Release Remake ZX Spectrum Game Fantasy World Dizzy

The original developers of the classic Dizzy computer platformers like the ZX Spectrum have released a remake of the third game in the franchise. The original, Fantasy World Dizzy, is originally from 1989. The game will also be released for the NES.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Dizzy game series, the remake, called Mystery World Dizzy, is now playable on the official website. In addition, users can download a ROM and run it themselves on an NES emulator. According to Eurogamer, a real cartridge suitable for the NES should also be in the works. For that, the developers, known as the Oliver twins, are going to set up a Kickstarter campaign.

Fantasy World Dizzy was then released in addition to the ZX Spectrum for the Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Enterprise 64 and 128, Amiga, Atari ST and DOS computers.

Originally, the Oliver twins wanted to make a remake of Dizzy 3 for the then very popular NES in 1993, but that was not possible due to financial problems. With the help of Polish programmer and Dizzy fan Lukasz Kur they finally managed to release the game. The game misses its intended release date by a margin of 24 years, but that should hopefully not spoil the fun for the enthusiast.

In the Dizzy games, players take on the role of the adventure egg of the same name who makes his way through all kinds of worlds rolling and doing somersaults. Dizzy’s task is to rescue his girlfriend Daisy, like Dizzy a member of the so-called YolkFolk, from the clutches of the King Troll, who kidnapped her in a forest while she was hiking with Dizzy.
