Developers release jailbreak for Apple TV 2015
The Chinese developers who operate under the name Pangu have released a jailbreak for the Apple TV from 2015. The jailbreak only works on copies running tvOS 9.0 and 9.0.1. Those who have a newer version of tvOS cannot use the jailbreak.
The jailbreak, which is on Pangu’s site, makes it possible, among other things, to access the Apple TV via ssh, but does not have an app like Cydia for downloading apps that are not allowed by Apple. There are more limitations: according to Pangu, a paid developer account is required to do the jailbreak and it is also not as easy to install as many other jailbreaks. The site 9to5Mac claims that it is also possible without a paid account and promises to explain how that works later.
In addition, users need an OS X device and Xcode. Users download a zip file with the code, which they have to create as an app in Xcode and sign via iOS App Signer. Users must then install the installation file via Xcode on the Apple TV over a wired connection. After starting the app, the jailbreak will install itself further.
The Apple TV can then be accessed via ssh via the IP address. The jailbreak for tvOS 9.0 and 9.0.1 appeared on Wednesday, but the version of the operating system used has not been up-to-date for several months. In early December, Apple pushed the tvOS 9.1 update to devices. The Apple TV came out last fall.
