StarVR has started taking developer orders for the StarVR One headset. It is the first VR headset with a field of view of 210 degrees, where many VR headsets sit at about 110 degrees.

The headset retails for $3,200, StarVR says. The headset is available in many European countries, the United States and some Asian countries. Potential buyers become part of the Developer Program and help set up the SDK, the company says. StarVR delivers the headset without tracking and controllers. The HTC Vive’s works because of the support for SteamVR, but developers have to purchase them themselves. The shipping costs are also not included in the price.

This version is still for developers, later versions should be available to companies for use in demonstrations or in arcade halls, for example. The StarVR One is equipped with two 4.77″ OLED screens with a refresh rate of 90Hz, with a resolution of 3660×1464 pixels. The StarVR One has a horizontal field of view of 210 degrees and a vertical field of view of 130 degrees.

The new glasses contain Tobii’s eye tracking technology. This is used for dynamic foveated rendering, so that only the part that the user is looking at needs to be rendered in high resolution. Infrared LEDs illuminate the eye so that a camera in the headset can track the movements of the pupils. StarVR presented its headset a few months ago. The company is a joint venture of the Swedish Starbreeze and electronics maker Acer.
