Developers God of War Ragnarök show new accessibility options
God of War: Ragnarök will feature over 60 accessibility options for people with disabilities who want to play the upcoming game. Developer Santa Monica Studios announced this. No new details were shared about the game coming in 2022.
Get disabled users according to the developers in Ragnarök the possibility to set the size of the subtitles and the captions themselves. Those subtitles and captions get more space on the screen and it is also possible to display them extra large. The subtitles and captions can also be colored and will appear in more places in the game so that a user with disabilities does not miss anything of the sound in the game world in God of War: Ragnarök.
The game’s user interface has also been adapted to the needs of gamers with disabilities. It becomes possible to scale the font size sufficiently so that the menu items are more readable. The in-game icons will also be scalable. The controller mapping was also taken care of. A user will be able to choose between multiple custom presets, or create their own controller layout. Buttons can be assigned a different function, but you can also choose to assign a series of in-game actions to buttons.
People with visual impairments are also considered. This makes it possible to enable a new high contrast mode that gives certain in-game elements a certain color that contrasts against the background. That background can be made less color saturated to make the foreground more visible.
God of War Ragnarök is the successor to God of War from 2018, which already includes some accessibility options. These will also be integrated into Ragnarök. Ragnarök was first announced in 2020 during a Playstation 5 showcase from Sony. In the summer of 2021, PlayStation CEO Herman Hulst stated that Ragnarök would appear in 2022. The first trailer was released in September 2021. God of War Ragnarök is out for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
