A group of developers will ensure that TrueCrypt is further developed. The original creators recently pulled the plug on the project due to alleged security vulnerabilities. The new developers are trying to set up a community.

The web page truecrypt.ch has been created for the further development of TrueCrypt. The initiators choose to settle in Switzerland because of any licensing problems that could arise in the United States. Earlier, the developers indicated that they were considering starting a fork of TrueCrypt, where it was not yet clear whether this is allowed under the license applicable to TrueCrypt.

On the website, the initiators call for a development community to be started so that the TrueCrypt software is not lost. Interested users can download version 7.1a of the encryption software at truecrypt.ch; that is the last version released by the original developers with the ability to encrypt files.

For the time being, the development of a fork of TrueCrypt has not yet started. First, the initiators want to complete the organization. In addition, we wait until the results of a security audit are known. This should show whether there are holes in the security of TrueCrypt. Incidentally, no problems were discovered during a previous audit.

A few days ago, the TrueCrypt website suddenly advised you to stop using the software due to possible security vulnerabilities. A new version of the encryption software was put online with the ability to encrypt files removed. Older versions of the software were removed from the site. The cessation of development led to many speculations. For example, it was suspected that the report was placed by hackers, or under pressure from the American authorities.
