Developers Announce Beta Version XBMC Successor Kodi
The developers behind Kodi, the successor to the popular XBMC, have announced that they will soon come up with a beta version. It should be available to interested users in two weeks. Kodi only has a few new features.
Before the beta of Kodi, which carries version number 14 and codename Helix, there is one more change to be made, the developers of the software say on their blog. A beta version of Kodi should appear within two weeks. The software is currently in its fourth alpha release.
The makers indicated that no major new features would be built in for the first version of Kodi, as a successor to XBMC. Emphasis would be placed on ‘polishing work’. Despite this, Kodi 14’s changelog does contain some innovations, including improvements in video playback, faster channel switching when using the pvr function, and improved compatibility with iOS 8. In addition, Kodi 14 has had some bugs squashed.
Some time ago, the makers of the media player software announced that they were switching from the name XBMC to Kodi. They did this mainly to definitively break the ties with the name Xbox Media Center, from which the abbreviation XBMC is derived. XBMC was developed in 2002 as a software for the gaming console.
