Developer shows interface iOS version for the car
A developer has put a video online of iOS in the Car, the car variant of Apple’s mobile operating system. The software seems to work with an iPhone on iOS 7.0.3. The iOS in the Car software would already be in the SDK.
In the video, the developer, Irishman Steve Troughton-Smith, shows an emulator on which the interface of iOS in the Car is visible next to that of an iPhone. The software has the characteristic home button at the bottom, in a status bar in which time and connectivity are also visible. Notifications arrive at the top of the screen.
According to the developer, the software is still limited. For example, various apps from Apple itself are missing in the emulator, although navigation is already present, for example. In addition, iOS in the Car cannot multitask in this version; it can only show the app that has the iPhone running in the foreground. The emulator supports touch and various resolutions.
Apple is developing iOS in the Car as software that car manufacturers can build into future models. The developer says it’s “a lot of work‘ has been to surface the emulator in iOS 7. It is unknown when Apple will release the software.
