Developer Releases Tool to Add ROMs to SNES Classic Mini

A developer by the name of ClusterM has modified its Hakchi2 tool so that it can also be used to add ROMs to the SNES Classic. This means that users are not tied to the supplied games.

The developer writes on the tool’s GitHub page that three-quarters of the games work well. In the accompanying Reddit thread, he refers to a Google Docs file that keeps track of which games work and which don’t. For problematic games, users could also use the RetroArch mod, which the developer has also released a new version.

The tool was also already available for the NES Classic, which came out earlier and has the same hardware on board. ClusterM says it was not the first to develop a hack, but gives that credit to a Russian named madmonkey. ClusterM then made this tool more accessible.

The SNES Classic Mini has 21 games built in such as Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid, and Star Fox 2.
