Developer releases Outlook mail encryption add-on gpg4o as freeware
The German developer of gpg4o, Giegerich & Partner, has released this plug-in for Outlook as freeware for non-commercial use. The plug-in based on opengpg allows encrypted e-mailing.
Giegerich & Partner makes gpg4o available to home users with a free license on the occasion of the software’s fifth anniversary. After registration and installation, users can import version 5.0 of gpg4o the free license, after which they can continue to use the full software even after the 45-day trial period. Version 5.0 supports, among other things, GnuPG 2.1 from version 2.1.15 and offers improvements in automatic key import and export compared to previous versions. Previously, more than 50 euros had to be paid for the plug-in.
Gpg4o makes it possible to send and receive encrypted messages based on openpgp with Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2010. It is not the only add-on that can do this, but it is a user-friendly and stable variant. For example, many users of the GpgOL add-on of the popular Gpg4win bundle are experiencing issues. In addition, there are more and more webmail services that offer support for pgp or opengpg, such as ProtonMail or Tutanota.
