Developer puts experimental Android 8.0 firmware for Nexus 4 online
A developer has made a port of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Nexus 4 from 2012. The support from Google for this phone has been ended for several years. The build is far from stable and has many bugs.
The firmware is not suitable for daily use, warn several users in the topic of XDA-Developers. Hungarian developer Dániel Járai, known by the nick Ziyan, has published the necessary file. Another developer has figured out which Google app bundling works with the firmware. Then users should not install root app Magisk at the same time.
The Nexus 4 has already received an unofficial update to Android Nougat. Google released the latest update with Android 5.1.1 in 2015. It happens more often that old devices get an unofficial update. The Nexus 5 also has an Oreo port. The 2009 HTC HD2, which came out with Windows Mobile 6.5, received an unstable version of Android 7.0.
