Developer puts Android 6.0 on HTC HD2

A developer has managed to provide the six-year-old HTC smartphone HD2 with Android version 6.0. Installation instructions have been released, but for the time being not all functionalities work on the device.

XDA Developers reports this based on a ROM developed by a user with the pseudonym macs18max. He made a modified version of the Android rom CyanogenMod 13 for the HD2. This version of CyanogenMod is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. According to the maker, the rom is not yet suitable for daily use.

The developer has released a set of installation instructions on the XDA forum for those interested in trying the CyanogenMod ROM. HD2 users must have Magldr installed and an SD card with two ext partitions. Macs18max also points out that the first boot can take about twenty minutes.

For now, the software is not very suitable for everyday use, and is mainly intended for enthusiasts and developers. For example, the screen, WiFi and audio work, but the software still struggles with a lot of bugs. It is likely that improved versions will be released in the future, but it is not expected that a completely flawless rom will be released.

The HTC HD2 is one of the most popular devices to install custom ROMs on. Although the device came out about six years ago with Windows Mobile 6.5, developers have managed to install all versions of Android that have appeared so far; Android Marshmallow can now be added to that list. Developers have also managed to install all kinds of versions of Windows Phone, Meego, and even Windows RT on the HD2.
