Developer of open source email app FairEmail quits
The developer of open source e-mail app FairEmail has removed its app from the Play Store and has indicated that it will no longer develop the app. According to the developer, he could no longer meet the strict requirements of Google and the wishes of users.
On the XDA forum, the developer announces that FairEmail is no longer supported. He cites the many negative reviews and the strict, unclear requirements of Google as the reason for stopping the development of the email app. That is why he has decided to take the app offline and would like to “go back to anonymity”.
FairEmail is a alternative email client for Android device users. FairEmail does not collect data from users and is therefore popular among Android users who want to use Google as little as possible on their phone.
The developer of FairEmail does not want to sell his app, because he thinks that this will not help anyone. In the forum post, he initially gives alternatives, such as offering the app via GitHub or a paid version, but his final conclusion is that he cannot sustain this and must discontinue the app.
