A developer has made a battle royale version of the original Super Mario Bros game. It’s more or less the original game, but played with up to 98 other players. They also influence each other in the game world.

The developer, which poses itself online as InfernoPlus, put a video online of Super Mario Bros as a battle royale game. That more or less means that a player can walk through the game as usual, but do so at the same time with up to 98 others. That also means that players have to compete with each other for getting the powerups in the game. In addition, they also influence each other with, for example, shooting away the shields of the Koopas; a player can lose a life by being hit by a shield shot by another player.

According to the maker, the game is written in HTML5, which makes it playable in a browser, via the website infernoplus.com. The website shows how many people are online and currently playing. After starting a game, with a maximum of 99 players, everyone walks through the game independently, with players only having one life. At the top right of the screen you can see how many players are left.

It is unclear what Nintendo, as copyright holder, thinks of the battle royale version of Marios Bros. in the video, InfernoPlus talks about the fear of a lawsuit, and the title on the game’s website is called Infringe Royale. Nintendo has been known to crack down on developers who use content that the company has copyrighted.
