Developer lets Super Mario walk around in Unreal Engine 4

Ever played Unreal Tournament and thought: what would this look like if Super Mario walked around in this world? A Mexican game developer has done just that, placing a Mario in environments of Unreal Engine 4.

To do that, developer Aryok Pinera meticulously recreated all of Mario’s moves and then placed the counterfeit Mario as a character in environments created with Unreal Engine 4 and the Unreal Development Kit.

The video shows Mario picking up coins that look a lot more realistic than in Nintendo’s Mario games, but other game elements such as power-ups are missing from the demonstration. Unfortunately, you can’t do it yourself either. Pinera has not put a playable game online with the more realistic Mario.

The video, which Pinera put online this weekend, has since been viewed more than a million times. Apparently a lot of people want to know what it looks like, a Mario in a more realistic looking game.
