The very first member of the Doom series, which came out in 1993, has been given a new level. This one was created by John Romero, who was also involved in the development of the original. More new content is likely to come in the future.

Those interested in the new Doom content can download the necessary files via Dropbox, Romero . said know in a message on Twitter. Those who want to get started should know how .wad files work; there are instructions for this on a Doom wiki page. The new level created by Romero is called Tech Gone Bad and replaces the original boss battle.

Romero previously said that the project is a ‘warm-up’. He did not say what that statement means, but it is likely that even more new Doom content will be released in the future. The game came out in 1993, and Romero states that he hasn’t created any new content for Doom since 1995.

While Romero is busy creating content for the original release of Doom, an all-new game in the series is also due out this year. Developer Bethesda is in a test phase that gamers could sign up for earlier. An exact release date has not yet been announced, but it is clear that versions for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will come.
