Developer gets SteamVR working on PlayStation VR

A developer has managed to get the SteamVR software working on the PlayStation VR. This means that interested parties with a Windows PC can play their Steam games with Sony’s virtual reality glasses.

The necessary software has been developed by Trinus and is made available free of charge. A demonstration video shows how interested parties can get the driver to work. Then VR games from the Steam library can be played with the PlayStation VR.

However, there are still some restrictions for using SteamVR on the PlayStationVR. For example, games that require the Vive controllers cannot be played; only games with keyboard and mouse support, or Xbox and PlayStation controllers will work. Finally, the refresh rate is still limited to 60Hz. A future update should change this.

Sony started shipping the PlayStation VR in the Benelux in October. The device is intended to be linked to a PlayStation 4, and is therefore not suitable for other VR platforms. There are already a large number of game developers that have launched VR games for the PlayStation 4, or are about to do so.
