Developer gets Alexa working on Apple Watch
A developer has succeeded in getting the voice and information system Alexa working on the Apple Watch. This is an unofficial application, in which not all functionality is yet operational.
The application is called Voice in a Can, and works on the Watch in addition to iPhone and iPad. Officially Alexa is not available for Apple’s smartwatch via Amazon, but developer Atadore has managed to get the system working and put the application in the App Store. This makes the app an alternative to Siri developed by Apple.
There are a number of limitations to Alexa on the Apple Watch. For example, it is not possible to tell Alexa to play music, or to set up an audiobook. Podcasts don’t work either, and when the screen goes off, the application loses its connection to Alexa’s servers. The developer therefore recommends extending the screen timeout.
No connection to an iPhone is required to use Alexa on the Apple Watch. However, the Apple Watch must have an internet connection itself.
