Developer Elite: Dangerous will release Formula 1 management games from 2022
Frontier Developments has signed an agreement with Formula 1 to annually release management games around the racing festival from 2022. In total, the British developer will make four of these games.
Under the agreement, Frontier Developments has the exclusive right to publish and develop Formula 1 management games. The deal concerns the creation of four games to be released from 2022 to 2025, although that still depends on “certain financial performance thresholds.” The first title is expected to appear before the 2022 Formula 1 season.
The games should be released for both PC and consoles, but it is not known for which specific consoles and platforms the games will appear. Frontier Developments also has the rights to release the titles for streaming services.
The rights to release Formula 1 racing games remain in the hands of British developer Codemasters; until 2025, this company is allowed to continue making the racing games, but that can be extended for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
Cambridge-based Frontier Developments is best known for its management and simulation games, including titles such as Elite: Dangerous, Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo and Jurassic World Evolution.
