Designer Xiaomi Mi Mix shows successor with even thinner bezels
Designer Philippe Starck’s Facebook page has a video showing a render of the Mi Mix 2. Starck was also responsible for the design of the first Xiaomi Mi Mix. The new device seems to have even thinner bezels.
The video was posted with the caption “even less,” which is likely a reference to the thinner screen bezels. The video itself states that it is a concept design of the Mi Mix 2. The wording ‘seesaw v3’ seems to indicate that the design is not yet final.
Xiaomi released the Mi Mix last year. It was one of the first smartphones with very thin bezels. The brim is about as thick on the top as it is on the sides. The front camera is therefore located in the bottom of the device. Incidentally, the relative screen size turned out to be smaller than the manufacturer claimed.
The front camera is also located at the bottom of the Mi Mix 2, according to the render in the video. Exactly what the relative screen size is will have to become apparent in practice. At first glance, the edges appear thinner than on the first model. According to the Chinese website MyDrivers, the new model will have a function to log in with facial recognition, just like the Galaxy S8 devices from Samsung.
