Denuvo-drm maker introduces SecureDLC-drm for DLC and microtransactions
Irdeto, developer of Denuvo, has released Denuvo SecureDLC. SecureDLC is DRM that should protect DLC and microtransaction content against piracy. The drm works with an api and requires ‘little’ changes to the source code of a game.
The Denuvo Secure DLC required according to Irdeto a ‘small and simple’ api implementation within a game’s code. After that, the SecureDLC api validates the api of a game platform, such as Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Microsoft Store. This allows the DRM to recognize whether the player has the right to play the DLC or not.
Irdeto claims that it has now become easy to play DLC on ‘popular platforms such as Steam and Epic’, without having to buy the DLC. The company talks about “easy-to-use tools” that let players “automatically install programs that make DLC usable without paying for it.”
With SecureDLC, the company focuses on all kinds of DLC, such as larger expansions for games or cosmetic items for free games. Irdeto says his DRM works with both free and paid games, as well as games that use the regular Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM. The dlc-drm is already used in certain games, but Irdeto does not yet say which ones.
