In the first half of this year, the number of vacancies in which people are looking for ICT personnel rose by 11 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Especially software developers would be in demand.

This is reported by Yacht, a recruitment agency that periodically surveys the labor market for IT specialists. According to the researchers, the demand for highly skilled ICT specialists, such as managers, testers and project managers, increased again in the first half of this year. Software developers are particularly sought after: Yacht had more than 27,000 vacancies for developers, an increase of 11 percent compared to the first half of 2013. The increased demand for security managers is striking: the demand for such positions rose by no less than 93.5 per cent. However, there are still about 800 vacancies.

According to Yacht, large ICT projects are being started less and less often in order to better control costs. Companies would increasingly opt for smaller projects because they are more manageable and agile. This often involves working with agile software development based on, for example, Scrum. According to the researchers, this can explain the increased demand for ICT managers of 23 percent: they have to manage such projects in the right direction.

Nederland ICT stated in its annual ICT Market Monitor in May that it expects the demand for ICT professionals to increase by eighteen percent in the next five years. As a result, the demand will be greater than the supply.
