Delphi XE2 can create native apps for Windows, OS X and iOS
Software company Embarcadero has revealed more details about Delphi XE2, a development environment for applications written in Delphi. For example, code can now be compiled for both 64-bit Windows and iOS.
Delphi XE2 will ship with FireMonkey, a new drag-and-drop environment for building applications based on Delphi, which is a dialect of Object Pascal, or C++ Builder. FireMonkey’s gui is rendered by DirectX or OpenGL, depending on the platform reports Company.
Developers should be able to compile software not only for Windows and OS X with XE2, but also for iOS. To that end, support for ARM processors has been added to the suite by using the FreePascal compiler, an open source version of Delphi. From now on, 64-bit support is also offered for building applications for Windows systems.
The exact release date of Delphi XE2 is not yet known, but according to Embarcadero, the updated development environment will be released this year.
