Dell updates XPS 15 laptop with thin bezels and UHD resolution
Dell has updated its XPS 15 with 15.6″ screen with Intel Skylake processors and UHD screens, among other things. The XPS 15 also has the same thin screen bezels that the XPS 13 already had.
The presence of Dell’s Infinity Edge display with thin bezels makes the laptop’s dimensions comparable to those of a 14″ laptop, despite the presence of a 15.6″ panel. It also means that there is no place for a camera above the screen: just like with the XPS 13, it is at the bottom.
The housing is aluminum with parts of carbon fiber material, such as around the keyboard. The laptop is 11 mm thick at the thinnest point and 17 mm at the thickest. The weight is 1.8 kilos. The full-HD screen version is matte; a touchscreen is available in combination with the uhd screen. According to The Verge, the uhd model also comes with a hdd, which makes room for a 56Whr battery. With the full-HD model, Dell places a PCI-e SSD, leaving room for an 84Whr battery. With both the ssd and the hdd, the maximum storage capacity is 1TB. According to Dell, the uhd model offers about 10 hours of battery life for web browsing, while the full-HD version is said to last for 17 hours, both paired with a Core i7 processor.
In addition to models with Skylake Core i7s, there will also be configurations with Core i3s and Core i5s and for more graphics processing power there is the option for an Nvidia GTX 960M. The maximum amount of RAM is 16GB DDR4 and the laptops are equipped with a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3 support, with which the system can also be charged. There are also USB 3.0 ports and HDMI.
The starting price of the XPS 15 in the Benelux is 1479 euros including VAT.
Dell also announced an update to the XPS 13. The details about the updated version of the XPS 13 with Intel Skylake chips appeared on a Dell site last week. There will be versions of the laptop with 16GB of RAM and an SSD with a storage capacity of 1TB. The starting price of this model is 1149 euros, including VAT.
