Dell updates XPS 15 and 17 laptops with Raptor Lake CPUs and RTX 40 GPUs
Dell has updated its XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops and supplies them with i5, i7 or i9 CPUs from Intel’s Raptor Lake generation and RTX 40 GPUs. The most expensive versions will be available from March 7. Less powerfully equipped laptops will be available later this year.
The The fastest processor with which the XPS 15 can be configured is the i9-13900HK with fourteen computing cores and a maximum clock frequency of 5.4Ghz. The laptops come with between 8GB and 64GB of memory, which with the exception of 8GB consists of two sticks. The memory on all models is of the DDR5 variant with a speed of 4800MT/s.
Unlike its predecessor, the laptop no longer has an integrated GPU. The device is instead available with an Intel A370M GPU with 4GB of GDDR6 memory. There are also more powerful options; these are the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 with 6GB of GDDR6 memory, the RTX 4060 with 8GB of memory and the RTX 4070 with also 8GB of memory. The TGP of the Nvidia GPUs is set to 40W.
In terms of storage, customers can choose from four M.2 PCIe SSDs: a 512GB, a 1TB, a 2TB and a 4TB version. Nothing has changed in terms of the display compared to the previous XPS laptops. Dell supplies the laptops with a 15.6″ LCD or OLED screen with resolutions of 1920×1200 or 3840×2400 pixels respectively. All screens have a maximum brightness of 400 to 500cd/m² and a refresh rate of 60Hz.
The XPS 15 laptops have a fingerprint scanner, three USB Type-C ports, one of which supports USB 3.2 and two of which support Thunderbolt 4, a 3.5mm port and an SD card slot. The laptops are 344.72×230.14x18mm in size and weigh 1.86 to 1.92kg. Both models have a battery capacity of 86Wh. Furthermore, there is a 720p camera on board, the two woofers and tweeters have a peak power of 8W and there is support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
The XPS 17, which has the model name 9730, has the same i5, i7 or i9 SoC as the cheaper model. It is possible to equip the laptop with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPU with 12GB GDDR6 memory. These graphics cards also have 60W power, 20W more than the XPS 15. The choice of memory and storage are the same. The 17″ screen is available as a 1920×1200-pixel version without a touchscreen or as a 3840×2400-pixel version with a touchscreen. Both screens have a maximum brightness of 500cd/m².
While the XPS 15 gets three USB Type C ports, the XPS 17 comes with four of these ports. These all support Thunderbolt 4. The other specifications are the same, but the XPS 17 has a larger 97Wh battery and the laptop measures 374.48×248.08×19.5mm. The device weighs 2.31 to 2.44kg.
The top model of the XPS15 will be available from March 7 for a price of EUR 3,342, including VAT. The more expensive model is initially only available in the most expensive version of 3,852 euros. The cheaper configurations with less powerful hardware will not be available until later in the spring. The prices and exact availability will also be known at that time.
