Dell stops selling and supporting Android devices
Dell will stop selling its Venue tablets with Android and the Wyse Cloud Connect stick with that OS. The company no longer focuses on the ‘oversaturated market’ for slate tablets, but on 2-in-1 models with Windows.
In addition to discontinuing the Venue line and the Wyse Cloud Connect, those devices will no longer receive updates, Dell has informed PCWorld. On a blog, Dell explains the reason for discontinuing the products.
“The slate tablet market is oversaturated and suffering from declining end-user demand. At the same time, 2-in-1 systems with 10 to 13-inch screens offer the experience of a laptop, with the convenience of a tablet when needed” Dell claims. The manufacturer does not think that tablets will disappear, but the adoption as a replacement for the PC will not be great among business users, the company expects.
“Let’s face it, tablets can’t match the computing power of PCs and lack the flexibility and ability to productively turn creative thoughts into tangible results,” Dell continued. Apple is just busy piloting its iPads into the business market. To this end, the manufacturer works closely with IBM, SAP and Cisco, among others.
Tablets with Android from Dell, for example, were the Venue 7 and 8 in the 7000 series from 2014 and the Venue 10 7000 with OLED screen from 2015.
