Dell starts selling Precision laptops with Ubuntu, Xeon CPU and uhd as options

Dell has launched sales of two Precision laptops that can ship with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. In their most extensive configuration, the mobile workstations can be equipped with a Xeon quad-core, Nvidia Quadro P5000 GPU and a UHD screen.

Dell announced the Dell Precision 7520 and Dell Precision 7720 early this year and sales have now started, including in the Benelux. By default, the Precision 7520 includes a 15.6″ screen with IPS panel and full HD resolution, Core i5-6300HQ, 8GB ram and an Nvidia Quadro M1200. The starting price with Windows 10 is then 2017 euros including VAT. The Precision can also be equipped with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus, which reduces the starting price to 1886 euros.

In addition, the configuration can be expanded to a maximum of a Xeon E3-1535M v6, 64GB ram and a Quadro M2200, while the screen can be adapted to an igzo variant with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels.

Similar configuration options are available with the Precision 7720, which includes a 17.3″ screen with tn panel and a resolution of 1600×900 pixels. As far as the graphics card is concerned, there is a choice of, among others, a Quadro P5000 or Radeon Pro WX. 7100. The screen can be upgraded to a full-hd variant with ips panel, but a uhd screen is not an option.In its simplest configuration with Windows 10, this model costs 2681 euros, but drops with Ubuntu up to 2549 euros.
