Dell shows white XPS 13 with partly fiberglass housing – update
Dell has revealed the design of an upcoming XPS 13 laptop. The new version of the slim laptop comes in white and pink, thanks to the use of fiberglass for the part around the keyboard instead of carbon fiber.
Dell gave TechRadar a look at the new version of the XPS 13 during a tour of its Texas headquarters. The current XPS 13 has an aluminum and carbon fiber body. According to Dell, due to the use of the latter material, the laptop is only available in black. By making the part of the housing for the palm rest and the keyboard from fiberglass, the manufacturer can also make white and pink versions.
Compared to the current XPS 13, the laptop also has three USB-c ports instead of type A versions of USB. The SD memory card reader has had to make way for a micro SD card reader. With the current XPS 13, the webcam is located at the bottom left of the screen, because there is no room at the top due to the narrow screen edges. With the new model, the camera is still at the bottom, but now in the middle. Dell will announce further details about the ultrabook during CES in January 2018.
Update, Monday 16.00: Clarifies that type-c ports are present instead of type-a variants and not instead of usb 3.0.
