Dell shows modified version of durable Luna laptop with modular parts

Dell has shown a new version of its Luna laptop concept, with a number of design adjustments. This laptop contains modular components, which means it should be easier to open and repair the device.

One of the innovations is that Dell has built a microfactory for the Luna laptop. It contains a robot arm that can independently disassemble the laptop and replace parts. The laptop itself must indicate which part needs to be replaced.

Minor changes have also been made to the design itself. For example, in last year’s concept the motherboard was still behind the screen, but it has now been placed under the keyboard. In addition, the required number of screws has been minimized and the use of glue and cables is no longer necessary, Dell writes.

The company claims to be developing the most sustainable laptop possible with this concept in an attempt to reduce the amount of e-waste. Dell says Luna is “currently” just a concept. It is unclear whether the laptop will actually be marketed.
