Dell shows modified version of durable Luna laptop with modular components
Dell has shown a new version of its Luna laptop concept, with a number of design changes. This laptop contains modular parts, which means it should be easier to open and repair the device.
One of the innovations is that Dell has built a microfactory for the Luna laptop. It contains a robot arm that can independently disassemble the laptop and replace parts. The laptop itself must indicate which part needs to be replaced.
Minor changes have also been made to the design itself. For example, in last year’s concept, the motherboard was still behind the screen, but it is now placed under the keyboard. In addition, the amount of screws required has been minimized and the use of glue and cables is no longer necessary, writes Dell.
The company claims to be developing a laptop that is as sustainable as possible with this concept in an effort to reduce the amount of e-waste. Dell says Luna is “just a concept” at the moment. It is unclear whether the laptop will actually be put on the market.
