Dell shows Alienware Concept Nyx controller with trackpad and customizable triggers
Dell has shown off the Alienware Concept Nyx Game Controller, a controller with haptic and customizable triggers, a fingerprint scanner and a trackpad instead of a four-point push button. The company emphasizes that the controller is still a concept.
The Concept Nyx Game Controller resembles an Xbox controller with the button layout of a PlayStation controller, except that Dell’s controller does not have a four-point push button. Instead, there is a touchpad that can be configured by the user. The two joysticks also adapt themselves to the game, so they feel different per game. For example, a racing game should feel different from a shooting game. The weight of the two triggers can be adjusted by the player.
At the bottom of the controller are two scroll wheels, so that players can change weapons in games, for example. There are two shift buttons on the back near the handles, one on each side. A fingerprint scanner is incorporated in the front in the Alienware logo, which allows the controller to recognize the user and launch his or her games. The controller can connect to Concept Nyx via Wi-Fi to be used for gaming.
Dell announced the Concept Nyx platform last year. Concept Nyx works with a user’s local system and can stream to TVs, for example. As a result, according to Dell, Nyx and the controller work on every screen in a house, provided they have a WiFi connection and the app. Nyx should allow users to use their TVs in split-screen mode, where one user is playing a game, for example, and the other user is video calling or playing another game. The Nyx controller is not yet on the market, but Dell says the concept helps the company “develop the roadmap.”
