Dell shows 31.5″ monitor with mini LED backlight and 2000 dimmable zones

Dell has shown a 31.5 “monitor at CES that, according to the company, has a mini LED backlight with 2000 dimmable zones. In theory, this would lead to a relatively impressive HDR experience.

Without giving much publicity to it, Dell showed a 4k monitor at CES with a screen diagonal of 31.5″. Several websites, including DisplaySpecifications, show pictures of the monitor. It concerns the UP3221Q which, according to Dell, has 2000 dimmable zones. has.

The manufacturer states that the monitor is certified by VESA with the DisplayHDR 1000 label, which means that a peak brightness of 1000cd/m² is possible. The monitor is said to have a wide color gamut, where an unknown portion of the dci-p3, AdobeRGB and Rec.2020 color space can be displayed.

In addition, a striking feature is the built-in colorimeter for calibration with CalMAN software. The UP3221Q isn’t the first monitor Dell has built it in; the company also introduced a 4k monitor with a built-in colorimeter in November last year: the UP2720Q. Like this monitor, the UP3221Q has support for Thunderbolt 3 and a monitor hood to prevent glare.

Dell has not released any further information about the UP3221Q. As a result, it remains to be seen whether and when the monitor will come on the market and for what price. High-end game monitors with mini LED backlight such as the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX and the Acer X32 shown at CES have 1152 dimmable zones.

With the mini LED technology, an LCD is combined with many small LEDs behind the panel, which should lead to a relatively high contrast and a good HDR display. It is not known how many LEDs are used in the UP3221Q.
