Dell Releases Precision 5530 Developer Edition Workstation with Ubuntu
Dell announces that its Precision 5530 Developer Edition workstation is now available. That’s the last laptop in the developer series of the Precision models yet to come out. Users can choose to order the laptop with Ubuntu 16.04.
Barton George, who is involved with the Linux laptops within the so-called Project Sputnik at Dell, announces via his blog that the Precision laptop is now available. According to George, the models are also certified for RHEL 7.5, with the necessary drivers included with the distribution. The Developer Edition of the Precision models includes the 7530, 7730 and 3530 variants, with the latter becoming available in May.
The 1.78 kg weighing 15.6 “laptop is equipped with a Core i5-8300H quad-core processor in the basic configuration, with other options available up to a Core i9-8950HK hexacore. The basic working memory is 4 GB and is expandable up to 32GB In certain configurations, the workstation can be equipped with a Quadro P2000 GPU from Nvidia, with the basic configuration Intel HD Graphics are available.
While the device may come with Ubuntu 16.04 by default, it is expected that it can be upgraded to the most recent version, 18.04. For example, the Developer Edition of the XPS 13 comes with this version by default.
