Dell provides Alienware laptops with automatic overclocking
Dell has announced new Alienware systems, including new laptops in its line of products for gamers. Dell provides them with its own Dynamic Overclocking technology and Thunderbolt 3 connections. There are also new desktops and screens.
Dell is upgrading its Alienware 13, 15 and 17 to include USB 3.1 Type-C, Thunderbolt 3, and PCI-e SSDs for a claimed theoretical throughput of 4GB/s. The dynamic overclocking function would continuously monitor the temperature of the CPU in order to set the clock speed higher than standard without compromising stability. The feature does depend on the configuration: only the Core i7-5820HK mentions the overclocking maximum of 4.4GHz. However, the processor in question is not part of Intel’s portfolio. It may be a modified variant of the Core i7-5820K, which is actually for desktops. It is also clear that Dell is adding the Wireless-AC 1535 and Killer E2400 controllers for wireless networks and Ethernet connections, respectively.
The Alienware 15 is the only one to get the option for an AMD Radeon HD R9 M395X. The other models get Nvidia GPUs. The Alienware 17 will optionally get a 4k screen and the Alienware 13 can be equipped with a touchscreen with QHD+ resolution of 3200×1800 pixels. The latter system will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 62Wh.
The Alienware 17 notebook will be available from September 1 for a starting price of 1799 euros. The Alienware 13 and 15 notebooks will hit the shelves on September 2 for EUR 1249 and EUR 1449 respectively.
The compact Alienware X51 desktop also gets a makeover. Dell uses water cooling for this system to keep the Skylake-generation Core i5K and i7K processors cool. The X51 also supports DDR4 and PCI-E SSDs with M.2 form factor. Dell supplies the system with, among other things, a Geforce GTX 960. The starting price of the new Alienware X51 is 1389 euros.
The S2716DG is Dell’s first monitor for gamers. The 27″ screen supports Nvidia’s G-Sync II technology that should prevent stuttering and tearing of images by synchronizing the refresh rate and the GPU. The resolution of the screen is 2560×1440 pixels and the S2716DG is from displayport 1.2, hdmi 1.4 and a four USB 3.0 ports provided.
Finally, there’s a new curved monitor in Dell’s lineup: the SE2716H. This is the manufacturer’s first curved monitor with a screen diagonal of 27 inches. There are not many details about this model yet. The Dell 27 Curved Monitor will be available from September, the Dell 27 Gaming Monitor a month later. Euro prices are not yet known, but in the US the gamers monitor and the curved screen cost 800 and 400 dollars respectively.
