Dell provides 2017 version of XPS 15 with GTX 1050 GPU
Dell has put a product page of the 2017 version of the XPS 15 online. The laptop gets a quad-core Kaby Lake processor and a GTX 1050 GPU. The laptop also has a 4k screen with a thin bezel.
The laptop looks the same from the outside as its predecessor, but the internal components have been updated to a newer generation processor and video chip. The laptop can also be supplied with a maximum of 32GB of RAM.
It is not entirely clear which processor or processors the model will be equipped with, as Dell only speaks of a ‘seventh generation Intel quad-core processor and optional 4GB GeForce GTX 1050 GPU’. It is probably the Intel Core i7-7700HQ, the Kaby Lake equivalent of the 6700HQ, which is available in the top model of the 2016 edition.
The 15.6″ IPS screen is unchanged from its predecessor. It is striking because of the thin screen bezel, which gives the laptop a size that is more in line with 14″ models. The resolution is 3840×2160 pixels and it can display one hundred percent of the Adobe RGB color gamut. The maximum brightness is 350 nits. Furthermore, the laptop can be supplied with a capacitive touchscreen.
The connectivity options are also unchanged. The laptop has two USB 3.1 gen 2 ports, an HDMI connection, an SD card slot, a headphone connection and a Thunderbolt 3 connection. The laptop has a separate power connection, but can also be supplied with power via the Thunderbolt 3 connection.
Dell indicates that at least a 56-watt-hour battery is available. The predecessor was also available with an 84-watt-hour version, but nothing about that can be found on the page. Depending on the version, the laptop weighs about two kilograms. It is not yet known when the laptop will be released on the market. More information is likely to become available during CES in January.
