Dell plans to release Alienware 55″ OLED monitor with 4k-120Hz panel this year
Dell plans to release an OLED monitor for gamers under its Alienware brand. The manufacturer will show a prototype of the screen at CES. Dell does not say which OLED panel is used, but given the specifications it seems to be an LG panel.
Dell wants to market the Alienware 55″ OLED screen as a monitor for gamers. Until now, OLED screens of that size can only be found in TVs. There are already 65″ monitors, the Nvidia Big Format Gaming Displays , but they use LCD panels.
The OLED monitor will be equipped with displayport 1.4 connections, with which it should be possible to control the 4k resolution with 120Hz. On the back of the screen is an LED strip and an illuminated Alienware logo. The design is similar to that of the Alienware m51 laptop, which Dell also presented at CES.
Dell will not be demonstrating the monitor at CES in combination with games. HDR videos are shown on it and, as expected, that looks similar to the image of OLED TVs from LG, for example. It is not yet known what the monitor will cost, but Dell says the 55-inch screen will hit the market in the second half of this year.
Dell is also going to release more laptops with OLED screens. Both the XPS 15, Alienware m15 and Dell G5 will have an option for a 4k OLED panel of 15.6 “. These are 60 Hz panels. These panels are presumably made by Samsung, but Dell does not want to disclose anything about it. The OLED option for the laptops will be available in the US from March, at an unknown price.
