Dell Introduces Inspiron 17.3″ Laptop with Tablet Mode and Infrared Camera
Dell announced a range of new Inspirons in the 3000, 5000 and 7000 series featuring infrared facial recognition cameras at Computex 2016. The Inspiron 7000 series includes a 2-in-1 model with a 17.3″ laptop whose screen can be flipped for a tablet mode.
The Inspiron 3000, 5000 and 7000 lines are the entry-level, mainstream and premium ranges of Dell’s consumer laptops, respectively. The Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 series consists of convertibles with 13.3″, 15.6″ and 17.3″ screens in an aluminum housing. Manufacturers have already released 15.6″ convertibles, but there are hardly any models with a 17.3 “screen. This model optionally comes with an Nvidia GPU.
All Inspiron 7000 2-in1 models have a touchscreen that can be flipped 360 degrees and the screen resolution is 1920×1080 pixels in all cases. An infrared camera helps the Windows 10 biometric login functionality, Windows Hello, with facial recognition. Dell will provide the models with unnamed Intel Skylake processors. The 7000 systems have a backlit keyboard, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, a memory card reader and a USB-C port that can be combined with an adapter for additional I/O options or an external power supply.
The Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 series will be available in the US from June 2 for a starting price of $ 749, converted and with VAT that is 814 euros. It is not known when the models will come to Europe and what the starting price will be here.
The Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 line consists of 13.3″ and 15.6″ models, and these convertibles share many features of the 7000 systems, such as an infrared camera, keyboard backlight and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Dell provides them with a maximum of 16GB DDR4 memory. The Inspiron 5000 line also includes traditional laptops, not 2-in-1 models, with plenty of options. For example, Dell does offer the option for a touchscreen and versions with Intel and AMD processors appear. A Blu-ray drive is also an option. The Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 products have a starting price of $529 in the US. The traditional 5000 series laptops will be released worldwide later this year.
