Dell equips Latitude 9000 laptops with automatic webcam slide

Dell introduces new laptops in its business Latitude line. The top models are the 9420 and 9520, with 14″ and 15.6″ screens and a webcam that features a slide that automatically closes when the camera is not in use.

Dell calls the automatic shutter of the Latitude 9420 and 9520 a SafeShutter. According to the manufacturer, the mechanism of the slider synchronizes with video conferencing software and the webcam is automatically activated and deactivated.

The Latitude 9420 is available as a 2-in-1 and as a laptop version, both with a 14″ screen with a 16:10 ratio. The 2-in-1 has a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels and the laptop version has a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. Both screen panels achieve a maximum brightness of 500cd/m².

Dell puts the Latitude laptops in an aluminum housing and equips them with four microphones. The laptops contain 11th-generation Intel processors, or Tiger Lake chips with integrated Xe GPU. There is up to 32GB of Lpddr4x memory in the laptops and an NVMe SSD of up to 1TB.

The 14″ model is 14mm thick and the laptop version weighs 1.3kg. This Latitude 9420 will launch in the spring for a price starting at $149. There will also be 5G and LTE versions, with optional Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 or X20 modem. The Latitude 9520 with 15.6″ screen should be released later in the spring, at an undisclosed price.

Dell also comes with new models in the Latitude 7000 and 5000 series. Compared to last year’s models, the design has been changed and the new models get 11th generation Intel CPUs. Dell also promises better webcams and better audio quality for video conferencing.

A 15.6″ model appears for the first time in the 7000 series: the Latitude 7520. In addition, the 13.3″ and 14″ versions continue to exist, now with model numbers 7320 and 7420. The Latitude 5000 series is available in the same formats.These are the 5320, 5420 and 5520, which have an aluminum and plastic housing.
