Dell has acquired Quest Software for $2.4 billion. With this, Dell will acquire a software developer who, among other things, makes server and management tools for databases and data centers in particular.

Quest Software had been of interest to Dell for quite some time; last month, the company made another $2.32 billion bid for Quest Software in a bid to surpass bids from a number of investment funds. Dell has increased the offer slightly and comes to a purchase price of 2.4 billion dollars. Quest Software shareholders still have to approve the acquisition, but Dell hopes to complete the acquisition in the third quarter.

With the acquisition, Dell will acquire a software company that mainly develops software for managing servers and database systems. Quest Software employs 3850 people and has 60 offices in 23 countries. According to Dell, the acquisition will make the company more competitive in the server, storage, networking and cloud services markets. Quest Software is to become part of the Dell Storage Group.

Dell has been on a takeover path in recent years in an effort to grow into a company with a broad range of products and services. With this, the company hopes to get rid of its image as a PC and server supplier.
