Dell Announces Chromebook 11 Convertible
Dell has announced six new laptops targeting educational use. Among the laptops are three Chromebooks, one of which has a touch-sensitive screen that can be completely folded.
Dell’s new Chromebooks are the Chromebook 11 Convertible, the Chromebook 11 and the Chromebook 13. The Chromebook 11 2-in-1 is an 11.6″ touchscreen model that Dell equips with Skylake-generation Celerons. has a card reader, two USB 3.0 ports and HDMI.
Dell is also releasing a Windows 10 version: the Latitude 11 Convertible. Compared to the Chromebook, this has a front camera and can be supplied with a stylus. In addition, there are more processor options, because the laptop can be equipped with Celerons and Pentiums of the Kaby Lake generation.
The other laptops are the Chromebook 11 and 13, and the Latitude 11 and 13. These are systems with Chrome OS and Windows, respectively, and with 11.6″ and 13.3″ screens. Again, the Windows versions are equipped with Kaby Lake processors, while the Chromebooks have to make do with Skylake variants. The Chromebook 11 will optionally get a Core i3, while the Latitude 13 can also get a Core i5.
All laptops must pass MIL-STD 810G testing for drops and exposure to moisture and dust. The keyboards and trackpads should be able to withstand tipped drinking cups and the 2-in-1s have Gorilla Glass to protect the screen.
The laptops will all be released in the US on February 7. The Chromebooks for a starting price of 219 dollars, converted and with VAT that is 247 euros. The Windows-Latitudes start at 349 dollars, converted 393 euros. The actual euro prices and release dates in the Benelux are not yet known.
