Deliveries of smartphones Huawei are falling
Huawei smartphone deliveries have slumped in recent months. The company delivered 20 percent fewer smartphones in the past quarter than in the previous months. Deliveries still increased compared to a year ago.
Huawei gives no reason for the decrease, which is not easily attributed to seasonal influences: last year deliveries increased in the summer months. Huawei provided the figures to Reuters news agency, but is not a publicly traded company and therefore does not have to publish figures. Smartphone shipments also dipped during the winter months, but that’s normal and is a pattern seen across manufacturers due to high sales during the holiday season.
The company does say that the number of more expensive smartphones sold is increasing relatively: where last year an eighth of its smartphones fell in the more expensive segment during the summer, this has now risen to a quarter. That increase will be partly due to the release of the Ascend P7 in June. How the ratios were in the successful second quarter is unknown, but it seems that the decline in the third quarter must be at least partly due to lower sales of low-cost devices. That market has a lot of competition, especially in the Chinese market where, among others, Samsung and Xiaomi compete.
