Kojima Productions has sold five million copies of Death Stranding for the PlayStation 4 and PC through March 2021. The developer speaks of ‘pretty good’ numbers. At the end of September, the game will come to the PS5 with various expansions.

Jay Boor, who works as a publisher at Kojima Productions, mentions the sales figures in an interview with Gamesindustry.biz. It is unknown how many copies of the PS4 and PC versions were sold separately. Death Stranding was released for Sony’s console in November 2019 and was released for PC in July 2020.

Death Stranding is the first game from Kojima Productions and Boor is positive about the sales figures. The studio was founded by Hideo Kojima after he left Konami in 2015. Death Stranding was developed in collaboration with Sony and has not been released for Xbox consoles.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut will be released for the PlayStation 5 on September 24. This is an improved version of the game for the new console, with content innovations. For example, the Director’s Cut gets new story missions, extra weapons and new vehicles. The game also gets a race mode with online leaderboards.

The Social Strand system, the game’s asynchronous multiplayer feature, is also expanded in the new version of the game. Kojima Productions will announce more about this in the coming weeks. It is not yet known whether the Director’s Cut will also come to PC. For the time being, it has only been announced by Sony for the PS5. Owners of the PS4 version and a PlayStation 5 console can upgrade to the upgraded PS5 version of the game for 10 euros.
