Dead Space Remake Gets All-New Audio System, Released in 2023
Motive Studios and Electronic Arts showed the first pre-alpha gameplay of the upcoming Dead Space remake in a live stream. The game will be released “at the beginning of 2023” on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
The remake will include a completely new audio system, according to a detailed livestream from the developer. Motive Studios adds the ALIVE system, which stands for Adrenaline, Limbic System Response, Intelligent Dialogue, Vitals and Exertions. Each of these terms describes a separate part of the dynamic representation of the main character Isaac’s state. For example, the company promises much more nuanced sounds when moving, being out of breath and being in a state of tension through the system.
In addition to a substantial update to the sound system, Motive Studios previously promised to rebuild the rest of the game “from the ground up.” This includes story, characters and gameplay mechanics.
An improved graphic quality can also be seen in a separate, more general live stream. A few Motive employees explain how the Frostbite Engine underlies this. More information will also be revealed about the Peeling technology that allows enemies to be more realistically torn apart by Isaac’s weapons. Finally, there would also be an improved physics system for segments in the story where there is no gravity present.
The original sci-fi horror game Dead Space was released in 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Subsequently, EA in partnership with Visceral Games, at the time of the first Dead Space still known as EA Redwood Shores, released three main installments in the franchise. In 2017 the studio was closed. The remake is being made by Motive Studios, a Canadian studio owned by EA that previously created Star Wars: Squadrons and the Star Wars Battlefront II single player.
