ddd out of the popular Teletext app

Spread the love

Super-fast news, without clickbait, without videos that automatically play, without ads and without all kinds of other fuss. It is what makes Teletext still extremely popular. There is also an app version and there is just a little more to it than on the picture tube. We give 7 tips.

Teletext app tips

This month the app of Teletext exists ten years; for the NOS reason to introduce a new version. A new jacket? Well. Black background, colorful pixel letters and a simple font: Teletext is still nice and retro.

Unfortunately, the information service is a bit annoying with the times: the app is no longer advertising-free. The top shows a STER banner and it shows ads based on your surfing behavior. Unfortunately. Especially because the advertising distracts extra in the otherwise oh-so-quiet teletext environment. But the updated version (4.0) also brings good things with it. You can do this with the Teletext app:

1. Add a favorite

Teletext contains a favorite list. Here you make all sorts of shortcuts, so you quickly flip teletext pixels through your fixed tune. To add a favorite:

  • Go to your favorite Teletext page and tap the star icon in the upper right corner
  • Choose ‘Add […] to favorites above’
  • Create a name and tap top right of “Save.”

2. Home Teletext customize

Do you use the Teletext app mainly for one page, for example for the intermediate positions in the Premier League? So you can ensure that the app immediately displays your favorite page when you open it. This is also possible on the iPad:

  • Set a page as a favorite (see the previous tip).
  • Give the page a name and activate the switch behind ‘Use as start page’.

Some pages are standard in your favorites list. To set up such a page as the start page, choose ‘Edit’ in the Favorites list and tap on a page. Here you set the switch to ‘Use as start page’ green. The latest version makes it possible to set a subpage (such as 705/3) as a favorite or start page.

4. Refresh page

To refresh a page, you do not need to re-enter the page or access it via your favorites list. Double tap on the screen and the Teletext page is reloaded.

5. Browse

Browsing through pages can also be used with many other apps. Swipe the screen to the left to jump to the next page. With a swipe to the right you go back to the previous page. Swipe up or down to scroll through the subpages.

6. Share

To share a page with someone, hold down the screen. A Share window appears and you can share the page directly via WhatsApp, for example.

7. Split View view

The iPad version now also supports Split View, which allows you to use Teletext next to another app. To do so:

  • Open the Teletext app
  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Dock.
  • Put your finger on an app you want to use next to it and drag the icon to the left or right side of the screen.
