BBC documentary filmmaker David Attenborough’s next production, Conquest of the Skies, will be shown in 3D on the Oculus Rift. The production company uses an eight-camera setup to film the documentary.

The news comes from John Morris, director of the production company behind the documentary, Atlantic Productions. He told website Realscreen and added that the company has several development kits of the Rift in house. Filming for Conquest of the Skies is already underway on the island of Borneo, among others. Morris is optimistic about the future of the Rift. “I think millions of them are going to be sold.”

The company Oculus, which is responsible for the Rift, was recently acquired by Facebook for 1.45 billion euros. While Mark Zuckerberg and the folks at Oculus are positive about the acquisition, there are also voices against it. Video game developer Markus Persson recently announced that Rift support for his game Minecraft has been discontinued. “I didn’t invest in the Rift so that it could then be taken over by Facebook,” Persson said.
