Database internet store with 24 million customers may have been cracked
Online clothing store Zappos has been squatted. Criminals may have had access to private data of the 24 million customers. Whether that actually happened is not yet clear. In any case, the credit card details have not been accessed.
That writes the CEO of the company in a e-mail to customers. An internet criminal may have accessed the private data of the 24 million Zappos customers. That data included email addresses, mailing addresses, password hashes, phone numbers, and the last four digits of credit card numbers. The full credit card numbers are not on the street, the company claims.
It is unclear whether private data was actually stolen. What is certain is that someone has gained access to internal systems of a Zappos server. The company is currently working with the police to investigate.
Zappos.com is currently unavailable to visitors from outside the United States. Foreign customers can no longer log in; all passwords have been reset as a precaution. Zappos sells clothing and shoes, among other things. 6PM.com, which is affiliated with Zappos, would also have been hacked. It’s unclear whether that site used the same database of customer information, or whether any more private information was stolen as a result of that hack.
