The data breach at the GGD, which allowed malicious employees to steal personal data, has caused at least a thousand victims. These people have been informed by the GGD by letter of apology.

The NOS writes that the police were able to identify the victims on the basis of screenshots. They are probably made by the data traders. The investigation into the data theft is still ongoing and the umbrella organization GGD GHOR does not rule out the possibility of more victims being identified. So far, seven suspects have been arrested in the case.

As a result of the RTL investigation, it came to light that the GGD, which has many new employees to conduct source and contact investigations, did not put up any blockages when it came to exporting personal data. This data was offered for sale on the internet and can be used in identity fraud. There have been internal warnings about this since the summer of 2020.
